United Companies work together with the Federal Highway Administration to complete this project. The project includes 12.5 miles of roadway reconstruction and alignment up to 12,000 feet in elevation. Located above Taylor Reservoir between Crested Butte, CO and Buena Vista, CO, the project started at 10k feet in and topped out at 12,200 feet in elevation at the top of the Continental Divide. Upon completion, it became the 4th highest paved road in the United States.

This $21M, three-season project was completed for the Central Federal Lands Division of the Federal Highway Administration. The road was an unpaved Forest Service road that United Companies completed reconstructed. The reconstruction included excavation/embankment, culvert installation, under-drain, fiber optic wire installation, timber work, sub-excavation, special rock embankment, rock walls, road base, and paving.

To complete the project, United Companies utilized 13 construction crews including subcontractors for a total of 120 people working onsite at the peak.
