Project Description

United Companies completed the CO-112 resurfacing project between US-285 and US-160 in Del Norte, Colorado, in partnership with the Colorado Department of Transportation Region 5. This project focused on reprocessing and paving a key corridor in Rio Grande County to improve ride quality and extend pavement life.

The work included 242,500 square yards of CIP, 36,000 tons of HMA paving, guardrail replacement, and bridge repairs along the project limits. Through the CIP process, crews removed, reprocessed, and repaved the existing asphalt directly on-site. This method reduced the need to haul materials to off-site crushing and asphalt facilities, improving efficiency and minimizing environmental impact.

Strong coordination between United Companies West and East, Four Corners Materials, RMS Utilities, CDOT, and the Town of Del Norte allowed multiple overlapping jobs to be completed within the same project limits. This collaboration reduced inconvenience to the traveling public while delivering a high-quality finished product.

The project’s performance was recognized at the state level. CO-112, Del Norte to US-285  received the 2025 CDOT Smoothest Roadway Award in Colorado for Category A, achieving a smoothness number of 44.2 inches per mile based on CDOT data. The award was presented at the CDOT awards ceremony on February 12, 2026, recognizing the team’s commitment to quality and execution.

CDOT Region 5 Resident Engineer Tim Webb also praised the partnership and professionalism demonstrated throughout the project, stating, “I wanted to let you know that we just finished the 20624 SH 112 Del Norte to Center CIPR Resurfacing project with United Companies. Thank you for a successful quality project. I really appreciated the willing, cooperative, and can-do attitudes of three of your team members in particular: Mark Painter, Reed Peeples, and David Fife.
