CO-112 Project Earns CDOT Smoothest Roadway Award
May 6, 2026
United Companies successfully completed the CO-112 resurfacing project between US-285 and US-160 in Del Norte, Colorado, delivering both improved infrastructure and award-winning results.
The Colorado Department of Transportation Region 5 project ran from May through September 2025 and included Cold In-Place Recycling (CIP), asphalt paving, guardrail replacement and bridge repairs. By utilizing the CIP process, crews removed, reprocessed and repaved the existing asphalt directly on-site. This approach increased efficiency, reduced material hauling and minimized environmental impact while extending the life of the roadway.
Coordination was key to the project’s success. United Companies worked closely with RMS Utilities, CDOT and the Town of Del Norte to manage overlapping work within the same project limits. This level of collaboration minimized disruptions to the traveling public and resulted in a smooth, high-quality finished product.
That quality was formally recognized on February 12, 2026, when the project received the 2025 CDOT Smoothest Roadway Award in Colorado for Category A. The project achieved an impressive smoothness number of 44.2 inches per mile based on CDOT data. The team was honored at the awards dinner held at the Marriott Denver Tech Center in Denver.
With support from United West, United East, Four Corners, Critters Traffic Control and Coughlin Company, Inc., this project stands as a strong example of teamwork, innovation and commitment to excellence across the Rockies South Region.
Congratulations to everyone involved in delivering one of the smoothest roads in Colorado.
