United Companies recently completed work on 29 Road/I-70 B Overpass. This $34-million project included irrigation improvements, South, North & Interchange construction, upgraded utilities and street lighting covering 3.7 miles of roadway. Construction began with the irrigation phase in November 2008. Construction of North and South phases launched in July 2009 and was completed in 2011 with the I-70B ramp bridge. The mainline bridge is 779 feet long with seven spans and the I-70B ramp bridge is 322 feet long with five spans. United Companies was responsible for supplying all of the concrete for the bridge structures and the hot mix asphalt for the project.

ASPHALT PAVING, COLORADO: CDOT HWY 55 RED MOUNTAIN PASS

Location: Red Mountain Pass, Colorado

The Red Mountain Pass project was a 22-mile overlay project on one of Colorado’s most hazardous roadways. Scope of work included the application of a 1″ hot mix asphalt leveling course followed by a 2″ hot mix asphalt overlay. The project presented several unique challenges with steep grades, high elevations (11,008 ft at the summit), precipitous drops at the roadway shoulders and heavy tourist traffic during the summer paving season.

EXCAVATION, ASPHALT PAVING, COLORADO: EAGLE COUNTY REGIONAL AIRPORT

United Companies completed reconstruction on the primary runway of the Eagle County Regional Airport. The project was phased over two years and included extensive demolition of existing structures, pipe and under drain installation, excavation and embankment, rotomilling, placement and grading of sub base and base course, hot mix asphalt paving, pavement markings and installation of electrical components.
